About Us
Screen Auckland is the film office for the Auckland region and operates as part of Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED). ATEED is a Council Controlled Organisation (CCO) whose vision is to improve New Zealand’s economic prosperity by leading the successful transformation of Auckland’s economy. Screen Auckland is responsible for the permitting of all filming on public open space in the Auckland Region and is also tasked with promoting Auckland to the world as a premier filming destination.
Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city and the hub of the country’s film industry.
We’ve earned an international reputation as a filming destination that offers a top quality, cost-effective and conducive environment for screen production and post-production.
You will find hugely diverse locations and landscapes all within 40 minutes’ drive of the city centre.
Film productions based here can easily go from urban grit to remote rainforest, sparkling beaches to volcanic cones, tranquil waterfalls to rugged coastlines.
Incentives / Service
International productions are eligible for a national cash grant of 20 per cent of Qualifying New Zealand Production Expenditure (QNZPE).
If you can show that your production will bring significant economic benefits to New Zealand, you could also get an extra 5 per cent uplift
New Zealand crew members are generally self-employed contractors. There are no compulsory union fringe obligations or personal benefits such as holiday pay and health, government levies or union dues.
This can be an advantage to New Zealand’s competitiveness over other territories such as Australia, Canada and the US, where these add-on costs apply
New Zealand has a relatively simple, low-cost tax system with no regional or state taxes
