About Us

Among the three main responsibility of the Ministry of Information, the Entertainment sector is one of them, it has high public interest and is the strongest among the media.
The Motion Picture Development Branch of the Department of Information and Public Relations has been working for the development of the film sector, which has high public interest and the strongest among the media. The Motion Picture Development Branch continuously cooperates with related organization such as Myanmar Motion Picture Organization, broadcasting companies, productions, cinema operators, film artists and professionals.

History
- MMPE introduced as FIELD PUBLICITY in 1945.
- MOI formed the State Film Promotion Board in 1955 and Film Censor board in 1962 and Motion Picture Agency Burma in 1962.
- Established Motion Picture Corporation (MPC) on 1st July 1970.
- MPC renamed as Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise (MMPE) on 9th July 1997.
- MMPE changed Myanmar Motion Picture Development Department (MMPDD) on 1st April 2014.
- According to the Meeting No (2/2015) Cabinet on the date of 15 January 2015, Motion Picture Development
Department was terminated and reorganized as Motion Picture Development Branch under Information and Public Relations Department.

Mission
• To improve the modern standard of Motion Picture Enterprise.
• To promote Myanmar movie that will be beneficial and comprehensive national development and conservation of Burmese cultural heritage.
• To emerge Myanmar movie that aided the patriotism and ethnic unity.
• To encourage the emergence of talented film artists and film scholar.
• To ban decadent movies that destruct Burmese culture and tradition.
• To improve capacity building for filmmakers.
• To open film schools.
• To develop international exchange program.
• To develop expert producer.
• To establish the Virtual studio.
• To revel the standard of cinemas in every city.
• To establish the National Film Archive in order to preserve Myanmar films at an international level.
