Busan Film Commission 2008-10-09











































This coming weekend (October 4th and 5th), the first ever FPP event will occur in Busan, South Korea over the first few days of the Pusan International Film Festival.

The FPP (Film Policy Plus) welcomes key-note speakers from 14 Asian Nations, as well as two representatives from the United States: the professional location manager, Bill Bowling; President of WWE Studios, Michael Lake.

Bill Bowling and Michael Lake will be addressing the latest movement of many Hollywood Studios who have begun looking abroad for new actors and ideas, most particularly in Asia. Producers of both Hollywood and Asia alike are forming partnerships in order to enrich films with culture as well as reach a mutually beneficial relationship, economically.

Representatives from the Asian Film Commissions Network (AFCNet) will be addressing the topic of a ˇ°win-winˇ± system in Asian co-productions. They will discuss production funds, tax incentives, customs and permitting procedures as well as highlighting the Producers experience of location filming and film infrastructure.

Mr. Masahiro Yoshizaki, Deputy Director- General of the Commerce and Information Policy Bureau in Japan will discuss the ˇ°technical strategy mapˇ± which will greatly enhance the Japanese Film Industry by 2025.

While the first day of the FPP focuses mainly on enhancing the film Industry in Asian nations by cooperation with Hollywood Studios, the second day will center on supporting the Asian Film Industry through incentives and co-productions, as well as introduce the already existing, very innovative Asian film studios.

Mr. Tan Chee Wee, director of the Singapore Film Commission, will address the finalization of co-production pacts between Singapore and 6 other nations. Singapore is one of the most active countries in the Asian region, as far as co-production is concerned.

Ms. Walea Constantinau, founding director of the Honolulu film office in Hawaii, will discuss multiple incentive programs, such as tax investment and rebate programs as well as a film-friendly filming policy which creates an advantageous working environment for many film industries.

Mr. Matt Lubetich of Bigfoot Entertainment in the Philippines and Mr. Wu Xiaodong of Hengdian World Studios in China will be presenting their respective film companies. Both companies have been incredibly innovative forces within the film community, with comprehensive film studios, film academies and impressive sets.

All representatives present during the FPP will have the opportunity to meet and discuss new ideas for the future of film, as well as form networks for the expansion of the film industry amongst Asian nations.
